How to sign up/pledge support/contribute to the cause

DO NOT REACH OUT TO THIS ACCOUNT ON ANY PLATFORM SAYING YOU WANT TO HELP WITH AN ACCOUNT THAT HAS YOUR PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION TIED TO IT. Doing so can put you at risk for retaliation from the government. We do not want harm to come to anyone that supports this movement, so these instructions provide what is hopefully a safe and secure way to contact this account.

First, some important notes:

Make sure to read the above important points before starting any of the steps below.

  1. Purchase a burner smartphone. Making a recommendation here would make targeting those that join the movement easier, so do your own research on what would fit your budget and allow you to effectively communicate with us by encrypted means. A privacy filter screen cover is recommended, and if there isn’t one that is made for the phone, with care, a larger cover can be cut to fit the purchased phone.
  2. While we are not sure exactly what the government is capable of regarding surveillance, the safest assumption is that anything is possible in the age of AI. With that in mind, we strongly suggest not having other WiFi or Bluetooth enabled devices that you own nearby when first turning on the new phone. WiFi will be required to activate the phone, do not use your own home network, instead take the phone to a place that offers free guest WiFi for activation. Remember the new phone has it’s own microphone and AI powered voice recognition is very possible so keep vocalizing around the new phone to a minimum when it is on until a microphone blocker can be purchased.
  3. Once activated, immediately disable WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, location, Airdrop, and any other wireless connection methods other than mobile data. Disable any data collection option built in to the phone as well as any apps that are installed currently or in the future. Disable any automatic cloud uploading for the phone and all apps.
  4. Once the phone is activated and sufficiently isolated from other devices, it should be safe to keep it around other devices. “Should” is up for debate but these are uncharted waters. Next, set up an email address with a provider that has a track record for encryption and does not require any personal information to sign up. Use that email address to set up an account with a VPN service that does not keep logs and will stop the internet connection if the VPN disconnects (usually known as a kill switch). A good VPN is likely not free, so a generic gift card would be useful here. Activate the VPN and set it to automatically start when the phone turns on if the option is available (otherwise it needs to be the first app opened every time).
  5. Only have the phone on when you are actively using it. The chances of the phone getting tracked are likely reduced the less time the phone is on. Either way, there’s a possibility that all of this is not enough and we as a people are already screwed. At this point, it is still okay to turn back without putting yourself in danger from the government. We understand. This whole situation is crazy scary. However, if you are absolutely done with not having your voice be heard and are willing to put yourself at risk to stand up to those that control our government, reach out to us at thepeoplesdemands@proton.me with how you would like to contribute and we will reply as soon as an opportunity presents itself.
